KitschI kept saying that I'd get around to it, and it appears that I finally have.

I now have my own damn blog, so I won't have to clutter up people's comments sections anymore.

Now, you may ask yourself, "What's he going to do with his new blog? He must have a couple of rants stored up, or maybe some amusing anecdotes or something."

And you'd be right.

However, after spending entirely too long setting this thing up, it's past 5AM, the birds are chirping, and I'm going to turn into a pumpkin pretty damn soon.

If anyone's curious, I ended up settling for a stripped down installation of GeekLog, rather than writing my own (which I attempted twice), modifying the hell out of Moveable Type (which I tried about eight times before realizing that it wasn't anything I was doing, but solely the fact that I've managed to find the one server on the face of the planet that won't run it correctly. Frustratingly enough, it's a server that I'm the admin for.) or any of the other wonderful products I tried out (the list is long and distinguished).

Incidentally, this being my first post and all, it might be a good time to familiarize people with my writing style. Here's a quick list of the idiosyncracies that I've been able to identify in myself. You will, I'm sure, find more given enough time.

1. I have a potty mouth. Neither of my nephews have permission to read this site, so my family's covered. Everyone else has to fend for them-fucking-selves.

2. I will occassionally use big words and will almost always spell them correctly. I take writing fairly seriously, and therefore have an appreciation for the intricacies of language.

That does not mean that I'm going to hand craft every damn entry to meet my own exacting standards.

What it does mean is that if there's a piece of writing that seems a bit more polished than usual, it's a fairly good bet that I spent three or four times longer on it than I normally would, to the point of cross checking information, spell checking, grammar checking (I should point out that I don't use Microsoft anything for my grammar checking. Its recommendations are usually abhorrent to me, so I do it by hand.), etc.

3. I will beat you over the head with parenthetical remarks. When I write, it tends to be stream of conciousness. If you see a long post from me that has no parenthesis, it's again a pretty safe bet that you're reading the fourth or fifth draft. Conversely, if you see a post that contains nested parenthetical remarks (that's parens inside another pair of parens for all of you playing the home game), that's probably a pretty early draft.

4. I hate lists that contain three items, yet I make them all the time. The three item list is a presentation/public speaking/boardroom/bored room/powerpoint idea crutch that I have absolutely no use for. Rarely can the vagaries of any particular thing be encapsulated in their entirety by three bullet points. Sadly, years of shoddy writing-instruction-by-example have left me at a point where I will adopt that style of presentation readily, often to the detriment of the final product.

So, bear with me, basically, and I'll try to give good text.

Oh fine, another one for me to check. :) welcome to the Borg, man. Actually, I guess LJ is sort of the "collective" more than you freaky independent types.

You put that 4th item in so you wouldn't have a 3-item list, right?

This commenting system reminds me of PHPNuke...

If you want it to look more like Moveable Type or something, you can set your default style to flat in your preferences.
