It's not that I have anything against the Cardinals. In fact, I don't feel one way or another about them at all. It's just that, after witnessing the sublime poetry (in retrospect) of the ALCS, I want the World Series to in some way approach it. I'm getting greedy for it.
First, and perhaps foremost for the baseball-minded, is that the only thing that would've been more satisfying to me than winning that ALCS the way we did would be to win it the same way, but with Clemens on the mound for New York. In Red Sox Nation, we hold our grudges for a very long time (or at least, I do), and as long as we beat the Yankees and Clemens, I'll be ecstatic. Why heal one chip on your shoulder when you can take care of nearly all of them?
The second reason is that, and I'm not sure the yammering river of defecation that are otherwise known as pundits have picked up on it yet, we have a rare opportunity to see head to head matchups between Massachusetts and Texas in two consecutive weeks. The whole thing has got the makings of a truly shakespearian plotline, especially if we can somehow squeeze gender-bending comic relief in there somewhere. Eddie Izzard, perhaps.
Anyway, because I fundamentally want to see Clemins lose, but I also want him to lose to us, I am, for the moment, an Astros fan.
