This is not what I had intended to post about this week (or even next week), but I started writing a comment at Michele's blog, and it kind of became its own thing.
When I woke up that morning, I wasn't really happy with the life. I was running a little late, and had to rush out the door to an 9 AM dentist's appointment, which I turned out to be early for. It was only a cleaning, but I was fresh off of a root canal, so I was still a little gun shy about my first stop of the day.
My dentist's office is less than a mile up the road, and about halfway there I heard the radio DJ cut in to say that an airplane had just slammed into the World Trade Center. Given that the radio station in question had a fairly notorious morning show staff, I wrote it off as a really poor practical joke (I later found out this was a common response) and pulled into the parking lot behind the office. I remember thinking that it was a pretty nice day, and that I might put the top down for the drive to work.

Ok, so maybe the idea of post-dating descriptions of what I thought I might be doing that day was a bad idea.
At any rate, the trip was interesting (a longer description is upcoming, but I just got home and I was supposed to be working by noon today), Cedar Point was fantastic, and I'm exhausted.
Like I said, more to come once I have a couple hours of breathing room. 1 comments

I ran across a joke this morning that was a favorite in my family when I was growing up. It's a pretty twisted joke, and it got me to thinking about the development of my sense of humor in those formative years.
The conclusion that I drew from my cursory self-analysis is that I have a twisted sense of humor, and that this may somehow relate to my overall cynicism in the world. Beyond that, I don't know (I told you it was a cursory analysis.)
So, since I didn't come up with anything particularly deep, I figured I'd share some of the jokes that I grew up with, and those people that know me can attempt to relate one to the other.

Knock on wood.
My ribs are feeling better. They're not 100%, but given another week and a half, I think they might not shatter at Cedar Point.
I've been doing some poking around, and I managed to find some more info on exactly what I'm getting myself into.

...I'm going to be in agony.
A buddy of mine has a twenty-something foot sailboat, and today was its first time in the water in two years. A fine time was had by all, but by the time we got back into harbor, I realized that at some point during the day, the SPF 30 sunblock I had applied had not done its job. Either that or I really have become a vampire.

I just found out that I have two weeks to produce a beta version of a groupware application for a customer of my new employer. It would be three weeks, except that two weeks from Saturday I'm flying to Milwaukee for the aforementioned trip (see "Mecca"), so I pretty well screwed the pooch on scheduling.

Today I crunched a bunch of numbers and worked out a budget that should cover everything once I start getting paid for the new job. The feeling I had when I realized that I should be in the black again by the time I start college was hard to describe.
A couple years ago, the roommate and I decided to go spelunking. More accurately, the roommate decided to go spelunking and asked if I wanted to join him. It seemed like a good idea at the time, so a couple weeks later we arrived in a little town about 50 miles west of Harrisburg whose name I can't remember.

Sometime at or about August 12th, I'm going to be within ten miles of Mecca.
Fortunately for everyone concerned, I'm not referring to the city in Saudi Arabia but rather the fair city of Sandusky, Ohio.

The roommate's girl just stopped by. He's not here of course, and she congratulated me on the new job (which isn't finalized, but I wasn't going into semantics with her), and informed me that he had dumped her earlier today.
No, honestly, I really don't live in a frat house. 4 comments

Buy an overpriced, marginally clever shirt and help support my sanity. [how?]
Here's how:
Proceeds from sales go directly to help maintain the place in Maine that I go to regain a grip on reality.
It's an old cabin in an area that's close enough to be almost convenient, and far enough that there aren't massive swarms of other tourists about. I've been going there three or four times a summer for over ten years, and it's always fun and relaxing. It's an old place though, and it needs all the help it can get. [ hide this]
